M.F Husain moved to Mumbai in 1937 where he sustained himself by painting cinema billboards. A self-taught artist, Husain was invited to join the Progressive Artists Group in 1947 after his first public exhibition of paintings. He was nominated to India’s Upper House of Parliament (1986 to 1992) and has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honour by the Indian Government. In 1971, Husain was invited to exhibit in the Sao Paolo Biennale with Pablo Picasso. Over the last five decades, he has worked with various media including painting, films, printmaking, sculpture and photography. Husain lives and works in Mumbai, Dubai, and London among many cities across the globe.
